Not that we really left, per se, but sometimes life gets in the way of blogging. I won’t bore you with gory details, but we haven’t stopped doing some awesome photography, traveling, and even doing some fun book covers!
HINT HINT HINT… look that the link just below the banner.
Here’s the latest (and please, do go buy this wonderful book)
One of the most exciting Senior portrait sessions we’ve done recently was last week with new Class of 2015 member, Cindel. She had a ton of great ideas we were eager to try out.
As she is going to be spending the first half of her senior year as an exchange student in Germany, she wanted images to reflect her California roots. Favorite place to go? Disneyland, check. She’s on the swim team? Then let’s be sure to work in a pool, check. And, of course, there have to be images of Cindel reminiscent of classic Hollywood glam. CHECK!
Our heartfelt thanks to the very talented Make-up & Hair Artist, Ashley Gannon, for her fabulous work on the evening gown & underwater looks.
There’s that dread word “budget” with all the implications of a venue with torn carpets, bare tables, and so-so food.
I’m not going to tackle everything in one post (this will be a subject I’ll return to often) but I will relate that even my own wedding had to be scaled back due to some unforeseen financial setbacks. Life happens.
One area to economize in is decorations. You can still achieve a gorgeous look on low budget by using a critical and creative eye. I recently ran across this from Luna Bazaar and I love love LOVE the vintage look of mercury silver and baby’s breath.
There are more pictures at the link of chair and lighting decorations.
Eric and I had an outdoor wedding and made our centerpieces do double duty. I used ice buckets set in grapevine wreaths decorated by winding strings of small faux pearls and silk ivy leaves. Buckets held champagne or sparkling cider and the bucket handles tied with ribbon in our wedding colors.
Two things we didn’t scrimp on was the food (we went out and tasted a lot of catering dishes!) and photography. When all is said and done, photos really are the only tangible thing you’ll have when your wedding is over. Our photographer was great and we look back on our wedding images happy we kept him even through the rough spots.
Our wedding, July 14, 2001
What do you get when you hand a couple of fancy cameras to a slightly neurotic, rock-n-roll wizard of technology and a happy-go-lucky threatre geek with oodles of children? You get a husband and wife team who appreciate the special moments in a person’s life and have both the knowledge and the tools to capture it forever in images.
We sit around at our favorite dining spots talking about image composition and lighting techniques, and we ponder what creative inspirations will best suit your requests.
Uncle Bob and his smartphone catch candid and sometimes marginal shots of your event, while experienced photographers envision it, light it, frame it and finish it. The magic makes it art instead of a snapshot.

Claremont, California, is a beautiful small town tucked on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. It is home to the Claremont Colleges which are considered the Westcoast Ivy League. In fact, the Pomona College campus has been used as movie site locations for Real Genius and Teen Wolf.
We decided to put together a stylized wedding photography shoot in the Claremont area to allow us the time to explore and find the best places to photograph our clients. Eric and I love to do our homework when scouting locations.
Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful models we worked with:
Rich and Harlow Rose
And our very talented Make-up Artist & Hair Stylist:
I was born in Los Angeles and have always loved the beach. When the sky is just that shade of blue, and the wind blows cool off the waves, and the sand is warm under your feet, and the sun is warm on your face, a little bit a magic happens.
Antoinette, Cliff and their beautiful daughter, Bianca, hit that bit of magic when we all got together for a fun-filled shoot at Aliso Beach in Laguna.
2013 has been a very busy year for us. No less than the adding of this blog to our regular website!
We are juggling family, jobs and working hard on Hip Shots Photography and now is time to write about our adventures.
And try to do it on a regular basis.
